HOURS OF WORK: 32-40 HOURS PER WEEK (Based on needs of residents) Tuesday through Saturday noon to 8:00 p.m.
COMPENSATION: $23.51-$26.46 per hour $1/hr. Shift Differential Saturdays Including Benefit Package
REPORTS TO: PROGRAM MANAGER
We are looking to hire a second Childcare Worker to join our team. The Childcare Worker plays a crucial role in providing support and assistance to children who have experienced domestic violence, residing in our shelter. This position requires a deep understanding of child development, trauma-informed care, and the dynamics of domestic violence.
This position will:
- Provide emotional support and guidance to children residing in the shelter, helping them cope with the effects of domestic violence.
- Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities and programs designed to promote healing, resilience, and positive social interactions among children.
- Work closely with the Crisis Intervention Workers, Child & Youth Trauma Counsellor, and external partners to ensure the safety and well-being of children, including coordinating with mental health professionals and educational staff and institutions as needed.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of services provided, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with relevant regulations and policies.
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, and continuous learning opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting children impacted by domestic violence.
Qualifications:
- Diploma in a related human/social service field preferably with a minimum of one- year recent related experience or ECE level I or II Certification preferably with a minimum of one-year recent related experience.
- Standard First-Aid and CPR
- Children’s Services Intervention Check & Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
Preferred skills:
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with diverse and multi-cultural communities.
- A strong knowledge of best practices in family violence.
- Understanding of trauma-informed care.
- Experience in working in a residential program.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- A willingness to take additional training as required.
